The Centre d'études mongoles et sibériennes (French Center for Mongolian and Siberian Studies) promotes research on Mongolia and its surrounding areas, mainly Southern Siberia and regions of China inhabited by Mongol and related peoples. The Center's activities include processing of documents and editing the journal Etudes mongoles et sibériennes (see below "periodicals"). The Centre d'études mongoles does not offer any teaching; it coordinates research and collaborative work with mongolists of the above mentioned areas. Its research activities are mainly orientated towards linguistics and anthropology : studies on Mongolian dialectology, altaistics, minor languages of Siberia, space categorisation, epics and shamanistic literature, translations and editing of ethnographical materials, computer-processing of the Mongolian (traditional) script, program for automatic translitteration into Mongolian script of its romanised form; these activities are presently centered around the computer-assisted editing of an important Dictionnaire Mongol-Français (30,000 word entries). The Centre d'études mongoles holds a library of 2500 specialised books and periodicals on ethnography, linguistics and history of Mongolia and its surrounding areas, a large part being represented by rare local publications in Mongolian, Russian and Chinese languages, collected during expeditions by members of the Center. PeriodicalsEtudes mongoles et sibériennes, a yearly periodical edited by the Centre d'études mongoles since 1970, publishes papers in French and English, including contributions of scientists from the Republic of Mongolia, the Russian Federation and China, translated into French. Its present editor is M.-L. Beffa. Anda, a quaterly newsletter on Mongolia and Mongolian peoples, is published since 1991 by the Association Anda, at the Centre d'études mongoles et sibériennes Tel. /fax : 33 (0)1 46 69 25 84
